Every plant is different. Even within one plant family you will notice enormous differences between your plants and they need to be cared for to reflect this.
Overwatering is just as much a problem as underwatering. Lots of plants don't like to sit in wet soil as it can damage their roots.
Think about humidity. Many people concentrate on light and watering but humidity is also important. Is your plant the type that needs higher humidity levels.
Direct sunlight isn't always a good thing. Not all plants like to be under the sun, check the lighting needs of each plant individually.
